Viticulturist/Wine maker

Esona is a boutique winery, producing limited release wine from single vineyards nestled beside the Breede River in the Robertson Wine Valley. The wine is crafted to capture the unique tastes of Esona’s grapes that nature has provided. Our Old Cellar has been reconstructed into a tasting venue with an underground cellar, ground floor wine tasting and upstairs deli with a small but enticing menu that focuses on supporting local products and food and wine pairing. It also has a large deck surrounded by vineyards and overlooking the Breede River.

Esona boutique has decided to make their own wine, and we are therefore looking for the most enthusiastic, motivated and competent viticulturist to join the team. The newly appointed viticulturist shall be mentored by one of South Africa’s greatest wine makers and will learn all the tricks of the trade. We are looking for a self-motivated, passionate intern who is not afraid of hard work.

Tertiary qualification in viticulture and oenology
Computer literate – ability to use a computer with proficiency in Windows Outlook, Word and Excel.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Passionate persona
Analytical and observational skills

Ensure production plans are met
Pinpointing the correct time to harvest and make accurate harvest decisions
Managing the harvesting process and supervising the crushing process
Oversee the cellar process management of grapes including chemical and ingredient additions
Use machinery such as vats and pumps as well as general maintenance of this equipment.
Recommend treatments to improve wine quality
Conduct trials, defect mitigation processes and general wine risk assessments
